I find your whole attitude towards the musicality of playing is totally refreshing. In theses days of 'gospel' chops and 'the fastest drummer' your whole ethos of doing what is right for the song inspires me to try harder at just being me behind the kit.
nothing's obvious until it's pointed out, but it takes a cleverer man than i to do so. thank you.
I remember this! In fact, I re-arranged my kit right after I watched this, when it first came out :) Thank you! Never had any back/posture problems.

"Making Your Drum Set Your Ally" is a great refresher course our drums up to you rather than setting you up to your drums.

Just bought your DVD Big Time...Love it, just has a different perspective about playing. Also that the possibilities are endless. Getting creative!!! Start thinking outside the box.....Very inspiring.....Thank you for sharing your thought process for playing.....
P.S. As Peter Erskine says, " there isn't any destination, just the journey".
I was introduced to Billy's musical mind through MD magazine back around 2004. I saw some clips from Big Time over the years, but finally decided to purchase the DVD back in 2012. It has been THE BEST investment in my drumming education! It started me on an amazing journey of collecting DVDs from some of the most influential drummers of the last 60 years. Eventually I found out about Voices In My Head, and quickly added that as my TIED FOR 1ST BEST investment. I grew up idolizing Peart, Portnoy and Bozzio (quite typical of youth). Billy's focus on tone and mechanisms has helped steer my approach in a much more practical and musical direction. I have developed intense appreciation now for Pelton, Papa Jo & Blakey! Previously poly-rhythms were the main thing to get me 'jazzed'. Now I get a deep thrill out of tuning my snare super low, or holding a really soulful groove just steady a the back side of the beat without draging! I realize this was a lot to read, but I want to be explicitly clear: Buy Billy's DVDs and CDs, watch/listen to them several times, and feel overjoyed at the incredible music that you will discover within you.
